We asked our KeyRiders about the horses that have been extra special to them, and we will celebrate them by posting about one on our blog and social media pages each day until Christmas. Get involved and vote for you favourite on our Facebook or Instagram!
Ryans Son, by John Whitaker MBE.
He was special to me as he was my first top horse and started me on my International career, he was 5 years old when I got him – I was only seventeen! He was grade A at 6 and he lived until he was 18 with a very successful career.
He won many trophies, including Team Silver at Los Angeles Olympics(1984), Team and Individual Silver at Rotterdam Substitute Olympics (1980) and the Hickstead European Championships (1983), the Hickstead Derby, King George V Gold Cup, represented GB in Nation Cup Teams and many other wins.
He had a super character, good to do and liked the crowd, he would always buck at the end of his round and occasionally during when he wasn’t supposed to!
